Chocolate and peanutbutter snowflakes.

The other day my taobao packages arrived! I LOVE taobao, it may be one of the bigger things I love about China, seriously. Everything is so cheap! I got organic coconut butter for 1300 yen some, a full set of food colors for 130 yen..it's just ridiculous!

update: the food coloring was weak, but what can you expect for so cheap.

Anyhow, I have a funny story for you guys. I was browsing pinterest when I came apon this baby, it was right up my alley, no baking, no sugar process or anything, and I already had some Ikea chocolate just sitting in the fridge, so I bought some white chocolate and got to work.

It kind of went downhill after that.

The chocolate I got from Ikea would not melt(maybe it being in the fridge for a month plus was the cause?...)! Really, even after microwaving and using the double boiler method it refused to melt, it was this gross lump of brown in a bowl. So I figured maybe adding the oil then would help it be more melt-yish, and that didn't really do anything to help it either. Determined to make it work, I smashed it in the mold anyhow.

it looks nice here, but it's really too hard to eat comfortably.

I decided to use the rest of the chocolate, but it still it wouldn't melt, naturally, so I gave up and just added chunky peanut butter to it (the one we lugged back from Japan's Costco.), thinking it would make a nice spread. Surprisingly, the chocolate became a really good spread, almost that melted consistency I was looking for! Hope returned and I poured it in the mold and waited.

Yum!

Yum!

It was amazing! The peanut butter kept it from getting too hard, actually it was the perfect texture. It held up in your hands without melting right away, and the chunky peanut butter gave the chocolate nice crunchy bites.

I LOVE THIS STUFF! haha, if there is one thing that came out of the big experiment is that I'm not making peppermint bark, I'm making peanut butter snowflakes!!

I'm going to make more today, I wish I could send some over so I won't be tempted to eat it all.

yeah, they do have pretty nasty chemicals, but sometimes you've just got to have color! I'm planning on using it more for beauty products, like pretty colored soap or scrubs, not to ingest, although putting it on your body is pretty much the same thing....
